Hello! Valentine’s Day is coming up soon, and what better way to celebrate than a relaxing bath? I will also include the shower alternative if you do not have a bathtub. Sometimes I will do this for a foot soak as well, if you’re interested in that as an option! Since this is something that will make contact with your skin, make sure you go over what you add and omit/substitute anything that won’t do well for you.
Ingredients
Bath Pouch* (Keeps your drains from clogging)
Rose Petals (Love)
Lavender (Peace)
Orange Peels (Joy, happiness)
Oatmeal (Softens skin, helps dry skin)
Milk – Powder or Liquid (Softens skin, helps dry skin)
Pink and White Candles (Self Love and care)
Rose Quartz (Self Love)
*I would not do this without a bath pouch. Oatmeal can be pretty sticky once it’s in those pipes and you will thank me when you save on the bill. Also, you don’t feel the little bits of petals on your skin. Win-win. You can typically find ‘oatmeal bath pouches’ or ‘mesh shower bags’ online for sale, for much cheaper than plumber costs!
Assembly and Use for Baths
Your base will be your pouch, but some of our ingredients will be directly added to the water, so don’t throw everything in there just yet.
First, arrange your candles how you want them. The colors are focused for self-love, pink being the clear tie and white is more of a blank canvas. Tea lights are my favorite for this, they’re very relaxing to me. I also like to leave the rose quartz out of the shower and usually leave it near one of the mirrors in the bathroom.
In your pouch you’ll be putting about a cup of oatmeal. Depending on how high you fill your bath water you may want more or less, feel free to adjust this. Now your rose petals, Lavender, and the orange peels. Once these are in your pouch, you can close it. Some like to place it under the faucet so the water runs through the pouch, some like to put it more directly in the water.
Once your pouch is done, you’ll be adding your milk into the bath. Depending on if you use powdered or liquid can change how much you add in, as well as the amount of water you’ve run for the bath. Similar to the oatmeal, play around with the amount until you have it somewhere you much more prefer it.
You can also add an extra touch with your favorite bubble bath, if you’d like to make the spell more personalized.
If I want to use this for a foot soak instead, I just make a smaller pouch for a foot bath and cut back the amount of oatmeal and milk. Typically, I need very little of everything, since foot baths are usually on the smaller end.
Assembly and Use for Showers
Now the shower version is a bit different, we’ll be omitting the oatmeal and the milk but everything else is the same. In your pouch you’ll be putting your rose petals, Lavender, and the orange peels. Once these are in your pouch, you’ll just give it a squeeze before your showers, and this will allow them to act more in aroma as a shower steamer. Replace when you need to, don’t allow it to get wet or be in the direct stream of water. I like to hang mine on the shower head but push them back against the wall, away from the water. Now you’re done!
There are ways to make your own shower steamer discs, though I have not yet tried my hand with them for this particular ritual. This is also something to keep in mind if you’d rather try that. Plus, you can use essential oils this way and still avoid little bits of petals or other chunks from chilling around your shower, or on your skin.
Benefits and Use
This bath is pretty versatile for me, it’s why it’s one of the first ones I’ve shared on this website. I use it in a lot of different ways, for different reasons. I’ll be honest not many of them fit together with a lot of reason, so here is a list in no particular order of ways I utilize this bath ritual, and reasons why I would recommend it to others.
-Oatmeal and milk are very good for the skin as it is. These add a lot more of a mundane self-care aspect to the ritual, and you know I love adding my mundane uses to magic. Now, if you have skin issues or conditions you should always talk to your doctor first, but oatmeal and milk can help with dry skin and sometimes may be recommended by a doctor to help treat dry skin.
-If you need to hide your practice for whatever reason, this ritual is pretty under the radar. No one is going to accuse you of witchcraft for taking baths. Could you image someone starting such a tiff over a bath? They probably shouldn’t be in your life if they’re that pressed about how you bathe.
-Most of our ingredients are aimed at self-love, and the others are aimed towards peace and joy. Not only do they work in harmony for the spell, but they also have a very harmonious smell. This is on purpose, who would want to smell bad after a bath? Feel free to place around with how much you use of what. Overall, the bath will have a very sweet citrus-floral scent, that shifts bit into a more tart-sweet baked good when we add the milk and the oatmeal. If you cut back on the orange peels there’s a more sweet-floral smell, like a rosy-lavender pastry. If you don’t like the floral, you can lean more into the orange peels and get an overall citrus-sweet smell instead.
-I’ve found this once a month helps improve my overall mood and attitude. The nicer you are to yourself the nicer yourself is to you. I know it sounds silly, and like it shouldn’t be that simple, but it is. A lot of my path works around self-care and shadow work, and ritual baths have become a surprising, but welcome, addition over time. I will admit I used to scoff at the idea of a ritual bath, but that was before I admitted that I deserve the same love and care I give others. If you feel called out, go take a bath and thank me later. I like to use this with some incense, and usually a face masks and a glass of wine or some Marijane (it’s legal where I live) for peak relaxation. Throw a good book in the mix? I’ll see you when the waters cold.
-This can also be a good addition to your cleansing and prep for love or lust spells in general. I especially like to use it before doing other forms of beauty magic, I feel like it does a wonderful job at getting me in a proper headspace and a bit more confident before starting them which greatly boosts the outcomes. It is also the perfect cleansing of yourself before a spell, as you are both literally cleaning yourself, and spiritually cleaning yourself.
