Why Spells Need Mundane Actions

How the Mundane Works with Spells

When we do spells or rituals, it’s important to know we cannot call things to us, if we do no other work for it. Why some spells are a great way to make something happen, you can’t expect it to work fully if you don’t put in the outside work that is needed.

Now, how does a mundane action help a spell work? There are a few examples off the top of my head, like love spells, job or money spells, success spells, bindings, etc. Most of these will fizzle out if you do nothing, or act against the spell-and some can have nasty adverse side effects depending.

It’s a lot harder than just placing a spell and receiving constant boons-you do have to put in the effort as well. How will a job call you if you never apply? How will the money come to you if you don’t have a way of earning it? What success are you wanting?

Mundane as an Amplifier

So, what is an amplifier? Just like the mundane definition, an amplifier is there to support. It makes it bigger, and stronger. Some people use blood as an amplifier in spells. Using the mundane is the same concept, another piece to the puzzle to complete the picture. Another good way to look at it is imagined you did a spell for a promotion. If you stop working as hard as you do currently, or stop working altogether, that spell won’t be able to do much. Trust me, if it was as simple as casting the spell I would own an entire company by now. However, if you cast a spell for a promotion and either improve your work or are already a great worker, it won’t take much more. You can’t get something out of nothing though and will still have to put in personal effort to get it.

I’ve talked about blood magic, and it’s use in amplification before, and I like to see some mundane actions in a similar way. You may need a bit more effort than blood magic, but it is a very easy way to boost the spell and works towards your goals regardless. Now obviously this varies spell to spell, if you’re trying to job hunt applying around the time you cast the spell will likely be the most effective. If you want someone to stay away from you it’s not going to matter if you make a spell or not if you don’t leave them alone.

Mundane, the Reason

Another thing with the mundane and spell work… often times people are quick to decide something cannot be mundane. They are set in that every experience they have is spiritual in one way or another. While this is not necessarily bad, it’s important to know when something is just the course of life.

Things happen! There’s not always some divine meaning to it, sometimes it’s just.. there! Like my home state, the state bird was the Northern Cardinal. I saw them all the time living there, and after moving I don’t see them nearly as much. While cardinals could have a spiritual or even folklore meaning behind them, I saw far to many for it to be the case. And it being the state bird, it makes sense that there would be so many that I’d be seeing regularly!

Not everything in our lives will have some strong spiritual meaning, and that’s okay! Honestly if everything was spiritual, I’d be quite exhausted. Often times I tell people new to the path to treat things as they did before they became a practitioner. Beforehand most of us would have a day of bad luck and leave it at that. I notice often people come in and they have a normal bad day and are convinced someone has cursed or hexed them.

While it can be the case occasionally, not every bad day you have is caused by others. Sometimes things just happen. And while that can make it hard to realize when you’re getting signs, that’s part of why they are signs. There’s going to be more than you see a crow once, especially if they’re very common where you live. Most people aren’t just ready to fling curses and hexes willy-nilly. A jinx you may find a bit more common-but a lot of bad times are just bad times.

You are not less of a practitioner, and your life is not less magical just because there’s mundane reasoning behind things, or because you need to use the mundane to have your spells or rituals succeed. It’s important to appreciate life outside of a spiritual sense as well, because the mundane can be beautiful!

The Mundane and Baneful Magic

Now when it comes to baneful magic, your mundane action is going to look a lot more like inaction. A lot of baneful magic is aimed to push people away, or to bring you good as they meddle in your life. You’re going to take a step back from it in most of these cases, and your mundane amplifier of the baneful magic is going to be stepping back and keeping quiet to them. Often times your baneful magic is just going to work better if you keep a distance, you don’t want to be in the front row when it starts anyway-it’s best just to step away.

Other times, you may ‘program’ a spell to be shook in its jar or maybe link the spell to a specific action or emotion. Maybe something that gives bad luck if that person upsets you, or money comes your way when they gossip about you. Depending on how creative you can get there’s a ton of possibilities here.

This is also why I treat mundane action as extremely important in my spell work. Depending on what I want, different actions may overall help or hinder my end results. I want to be able to work in tune with my spells-not against them. Timing and action can matter a lot, and I feel with baneful magic a lot of people are quick to the trigger. Sometimes you curse in your anger-and then work against that curse by further acting on that anger.

Overall, you should pay close attention to the way you conduct yourself around your spells, and make sure your action aligns with your intentions.
